Astrid van Nimwegen

Garagedoors, (4 films 2min-each), Netherlands, 2013

Astrid van Nimwegen is a fine artist living in the middle of the Dutch farm land. She is strongly connected to and influenced by this isolated landscape. Passionately working within video and photography, her work is an ongoing search for balance between minimalism, conceptualism, theatricality and the language of cinema.

Each video in the series follows the same structure: a garage door opens, followed by an uninterrupted view of about two minutes on the environment that is behind it. The garage door becomes like a heavy theatre curtain that opens to give a glance on a stage. When the play has ended, the curtain closes again.
