ABOUT THE BOOK
The monograph dedicated to the twenty-fifth anniversary of the International Media Art Festival - Videomedeja - in addition to basic information about the festival, provides an insight into the historical development of video art. The integral parts of the monograph are the video interviews that the longtime director of Videomedeja Ivana Sremčević Matijević conducted with the guests and participants of the festival over the years. The interviews, transcribed for this edition, include discussions with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including artists, curators, historians, and media theorists. In these conversations, the interviewees share their perspectives on topics including media synthesis within a digital environment, the significance of transitioning from analog to digital technology, reflections on the interconnectedness of film, video, and television, and a broader exploration of contemporary artistic practice. These interviews also encompass an interpretation of the evolution of artistic expression, tracing the trajectory from early video art in the 1960s to the present day.
Among the participants in the book and film are: Aleksandar Davić, Želimir Žilnik, Čedomir Vasić, Mileta Poštić, Zoran Naskovski, Kathy Rae Huffman, Damon Mohl, Martijn Veldhoen, Piotr Krajewski, Kathrin Becker, Robert Arnold, Jean-Gabriel Périot, Anouk De Clercq, Sylvia Winkler, Stephan Köperl, Christl Baur with an authored text "Ars Electronica and the evolution of expanded animation," and others.
The publication of the book is supported by: City of Novi Sad – City Administration for Culture, Provincial Secretariat for Culture, Public information and relations with Religious Communities.

It is very ungrateful to give judgment or try to explain the evolutionary course of any phenomenon, even a festival like Videomedeja. Formed back in 1996 in Novi Sad in a very specific environment, which today, it seems, only the individuals that used to live in this land called Yugoslavia can actually realize (and visualize). Yet this text will offer an unpretentious view on the event from 1996 to today …
