Subtitles: to Know without Learning is an intimate and subtle humorous film in which a sequence of handmade subtitles translate, confirm, or deny what the only character of the film says while talking to the camera. The prefabricated subtitles show the relation between language, image and the spoken and written word. It unveils the construction that both film and language are. Written and spoken language play along to express the difficulty of a comprehensive meaning in this ingenious constructed work.
