Insurgent Flows. TransDecolonial and Black Marxist Futures, 60:00 min, Slovenia, 2024

Friday, Oct 10, 2025, Social Center, Svilara Cultural Station

19:00 – 20:00

A jury Member Marina Gržinić  will have a 60 minutes presentation of her last collaborative videofilm work. Will be screened the 30 minutes director cut of the video-film.

The screening presents Insurgent Flows, a critical exploration of state violence, democracy, and necropolitics in the context of former Eastern Europe. The film interrogates the failure of socialism/communism, revealing how its collapse reinforced racial hierarchies, exclusionary practices, and the reproduction of Europe as a white, Christian space. It examines the intersections of colonialism, capitalism, and racialization, arguing for a nuanced understanding of racism beyond the West. Through a combination of documentary footage and theoretical insights, the film engages with trans*, feminist, Marxist, and decolonial perspectives, featuring conversations with key thinkers such as Ruth Wilson Gilmore, Ramón Grosfoguel, and Nat Raha. Their contributions deepen the analysis of racial capitalism, queer insurgency, and anti-colonial resistance.

The event includes a discussion with the filmmakers and contributors, highlighting the project’s engagement with decolonial, Black Marxist, and trans* activist currents. The film is supported by Obalne Galerije Piran and the FWF-funded Conviviality as Potentiality project (2021–25).
