Arthur Dujols-Luquet
Sur les sentiers de nos pas, 32:29 min, Color, Stereo, France/China, 2025
China, 2025. With a back burdened by blossoms, a solitary figure moves forward slowly. The
journey is arduous, the steps are heavy. As time unfolds, it slows down, stretches, and durations
expand. A day passes, a thousand thoughts drift by… yet one question remains: how can one
exist in such a world?
Filmed in Hangzhou, China, this work seeks to portray the inner landscape of a Sisyphean figure
wandering through Chinese cities and countrysides. The portrait gradually emerges through the
slow, introspective journey of this figure, caught in an inner struggle and searching for
expression.
Through a procession of scenes and landscapes arising from the solitary figure’s thoughts, the
film invites the viewer to immerse themselves in a series of visual poems where the hopes and
trials of an era are revealed.
Born in 1999, Arthur Dujols-Luquet graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2023,
where he studied in Emmanuelle Huynh’s Dance and Performance studio. His collaborations
with choreographers Boris Charmatz, Dimitri Chamblas, Loïc Touzé and Jocelyn Cottencin have
profoundly shaped his artistic practice, expanding drawing and sculpture through a reflection on
gesture and the moving body.
Awarded the Zao Wou-Ki Grant in 2023, he developed his practice in China between 2024 and
2025, where he directed his first short film, On the Paths of Our steps (Sur les sentiers de nos
pas).
Arthur’s work seeks to give form to what he calls a “Poetics of Entropy.” Through sculpture,
drawing, photography and film, he explores the relationships between bodies, matter and time.
He is particularly interested in the slow transformations of beings and things, where cycles of
appearance and disappearance become the interstice of a living memory shaped by fragile
forms of existence.
